The past three days have been such a great learning experience for me. I registered for Image Quest, a photography convention, because I believe photographers should always be learning, sharing and growing. Investing in workshops and seminars can help propel us forward.

Image Quest, hosted by the Professional Photographers Association of BC (PPABC) is in it’s second year and was held at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC. It’s a three-day convention with a great line up of speakers - Dane Sanders, Mitche Graf, Blue Olive Photography and Jasmine Star.

On the first night of the convention, we were privileged to listen to Dane Sanders‘ heart warming story and motivational talk. I should have brought some tissue with me. Fingers don’t do a good job of wiping away tears!

He is the author of the superb book Fast Track Photographer, which I have and am almost finished reading. If you’re a professional photographer or aspiring to be one, please read this book. It will change the way you approach your business.

Dane was such a great speaker and made us really look deep inside ourselves and asked some tough questions. He challenged us with new truths about our identity.

“You are not what you do. You are not what you have. You are not what people say about you. You just are.” - Dane Sanders

We gained so much insight into how we look at ourselves and what that means for our business. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, please do!

Dane has put together an amazing line up of photographers who will share how to “bring your vision into reality” at a conference called Escalate Live. If you can’t make it there in person, it will be streaming live for the rest of us. Book time off May 17-18 to watch it online or better yet, attend in person.

Thanks again Dane, for such an eye-opening look at ourselves and why we are photographers.
