I love to capture the texture of natural materials such as wood or stone so when I came across this dome-like pattern of cobblestone, I felt compelled to shoot it. I used a smaller aperture than I normally do to get a greater depth of field where most of the stones would be in the plane of focus. I think a shallow depth of field (or more bokeh) wouldn’t really give me the effect I was going for. In post processing, I increased the clarity to bring out the mid-tone shadows a bit and increased the blacks a touch to enhance the texture.
I like the look and feel of cobblestone walkways, but it’s sure tough on the stroller!

So cool! I love to create my own textures to use in photographs too. It’s so great.
