We went to an event at a community garden over the weekend and it was just amazing to see the work they have done there. You can read about it at the Chefs To The Field website. I took some photos of the gardens and of the event as well, which I will be sharing with you in the next little while. As I was walking through the carefully tended plots of land, I spotted this little tuft of yellow grass surrounding a few cosmos flowers. The yellow grass was so different from all the greenery of the gardens and the bright pink colour of the cosmos were so striking against it, I had to take a few shots.

There was a breeze which easily moved the delicate flowers with every breath. The first shot was ok. It wasn’t quite what I wanted though.

The second one was totally off. I cut off the little flower in the background and the positioning of the blooms were undesirable to me. It’s funny that a little insect made it into the shot too!

So I took one more when the breeze was just right, which resulted in the image at the top of this post. I like how the flowers in the foreground and background are more balanced than it was in my first two shots.

These are a few things that I consider when I am reviewing my images, rating them as I go. Besides composition, I also look at sharpness of focal point and facial expressions (when shooting people). What are some of your common critiques when it comes to picking out your best?
