Saw this bug-eyed hopper on the way to the car. It was resting so quietly on our garbage can that I actually had time to dig out my camera and take three shots. Oh, I am going to love getting my macro lens! But for now, I had to settle for a 70mm focal length and did some major cropping to get the image above and below. I also increased blacks, contrast and a touch of clarity to define the spots on its camouflaged body. It’s face had a striking resemblance to a human profile when I first spotted it so I had to get the camera.

Wouldn’t you know it? The moment I was taking this shot, I was imagining how freaked out I would be if it jumped at me. Guess what it did soon after I pressed the shutter release button. Yup… it scared the living daylights out of me. Luckily I didn’t drop the camera!

Laura,
Ha! You crack me up. Glad you didn’t break the camera. This is a really nice shot without a Macro lens. I bought a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon a month ago on Amazon.com and I love it. It was less than $200. The Macro lens really opens up a new world of photography. The second photo is my favorite and you are right, it does resemble a human profile. That’s so cool!

@Jonni: I am SOOO looking forward to picking up my macro lens in a few weeks.
I’d love to see some of your macro shots! I completely agree that macro photography is a whole new world!

Too cool, very nice macros! I would love a macro lens…I can’t seem to get decent macros at all with what I have now. What lens are you getting?

@Christina: I used my 24-70mm f/2.8 lens (my main lens) when I shot the grasshopper photo. Not a macro lens so it doesn’t really look too good. I had to crop it in a major way to get it to look so close. hehe I am getting a macro in a few weeks so, hopefully I can branch out into a new world of photography.
