I’m in a diptyching mood I guess. Although I used to throw two or three photos together in succession as a sequence of shots, I did it mainly to save uploading time on Facebook. But diptychs are a bit different. They force me to be more intentional with the images I choose to sit side by side. This time I went for “grunge” to fit with the messy-bed-head theme. I found a TTV texture (Through The Viewfinder - very cool and I will elaborate in a future post) here, inspired by Heather’s WYP this week, and used it as a bit of border separating the two images. Although, traditionally, TTV’s are supposed to be square (correct me if I’m wrong), I wanted to try it out. I don’t know if it works or not but I think it’s kinda funky. I like the messy black borders.
I just discovered a new room to shoot in. The bathroom! Whoulda thought there would be such a cool glow coming through the window?

Great diptyching Laura. I really like the way you used the texture and your results are just perfect. Such sweet pictures and I like the way you captured Sophie doing part of her daily ritual, very cool. I need to come up with a diptyching. Thanks for the motivation.
Hugs,

Oops, I think meant to say I need to come up with a diptych, not diptyching (lol).

Laura,
One more thing, what is your picture output size for this? Thanks.

Hi Jonni!
Glad you like it! By picture output size, do you mean for print? I actually just made this for sharing on the web and probably won’t get it printed, so the size is random. (1104×584) Does that answer your question?
Now, if you did want it printed, I’d start with a proper aspect ratio and just fit to fill it.

I love the new things you’ve been doing lately! It’s so much fun to experiment, and it’s really working well for you. Love the grunge borders. I am envious of your bathroom - mine has no windows and very poor light, so no pictures there (N’s probably grateful for that!). I love Sophie’s bed head.

I love the one of her standing against the wall. It looks like it was a quiet moment for her (even though, they rarely are, for toddlers, and this probably is deceiving) :0)
The border works great here too!

Thanks y’all!
The border is a bit heavy but I just left it as is. I’ll be sure to try out more of this “look” in the future.

These are great. I love the old time feel and ‘grunge’ (as you put it) look. Really special!

great photos of her looking adorable doing something she does everyday. i really love how she’s leaning against the wall, as if the task of brushing her teeth is just slightly exhausting…her feet, the undies, the concentration, the fact that she’s wearing the long sleeve shirt as if she needed to take a break midway through getting dressed to brush those little tiny teeth! I love the 2 photos you selected to put in the diptych, they really compliment each other.

Thank you all for your comments! I love knowing what you think of the images and if you ever have any questions, please do ask!
@Michelle: Welcome! Applying textures is not an option with Lightroom. You’ll need to download Photoshop or even Photoshop Elements (which is a lot cheaper) and apply a texture layer. I believe The Gimp (for PC’s) can also allow you to work with layers. You can download a free trial for Photoshop and let me know if you need explicit instructions on how to apply a layer. I may just do a tutorial on it!

I love what you did here. The detail of the borders and the different sized frames really add to the feeling of the images.
