I should have increased my ISO by much more to get less blur but I actually like how it turned out. The composition isn’t great but the motion really makes me feel the life and movement of a child, always running around, being curious about everything and getting into things they shouldn’t be getting into. ISO 500 might have been high enough except that I was silly and had my circular polarizer on the lens, which brought my exposure down by about 1.5 stops. Another lesson learned. Always carry a filter case in my camera bag so I’ll have somewhere to put the filter when I’m not shooting outdoors.
One of her favourite “toys” to play with when we see Great-Grandma is her walking cane because every toddler undoubtedly needs one.

Oh that’s a cute one Laura. Of course every little girl needs Grandma’s cane! I like the motion and the color. Irecently bought a circular polarizer and have been meaning to use it. Thanks for reminding me that I have it and need to use it.
This is really cute. Love little Sophie doodle.

What a great little helper you’ve got there! The blur really does work here. I didn’t know that about polarizing filters bringing your exposure down. Good to know, for if/when I get one.
Could you do some very basic Lightroom tutorials sometime? I have the program and have played with it some, but for the heck of me I just can’t get it figured out. I feel stupid for that since everyone else raves about how easy it is, but I need help! Thanks!

You’re so right about a toddler needing great-grandma’s cane. It just dawned on me that Andre would totally benefit from Grandma’s walker. He can even sit on the seat when he’s tired. ahahaha….

At first glance I thought that stick was a bat. Which would be normal for our house. The blurred pic really gives a different feel. I think more artistic and edgy.

I love the movement, it tells the story better I think. I’ve done the same thing with my CP and also things like forgetting I was at +2 exp comp and not realizing it until I was 3/4 through a (paid) family shoot. Good thing I shot in RAW…

I love how everything is blurred except one little part of the cane…gives a focus point. And ohh the colors! So cute!

Thanks everyone! Good eye Kirsten. I also like that the part of the cane is in focus. I think it grounds the motion.
If it wasn’t for that part, I probably would’ve culled it.
@Christina: I’ve always planned on doing more Lightroom tutorials but it’s tough to find the time. I’m working on my graduated filter right now though.
Let me know what in particular you are having difficulty with. I’ll be glad to help out!
