Aren’t you glad I shoot close up? When you focus, always aim for the eyes! If you’re this close, aim for the eye that is closest to you. I wish I had positioned her slightly more to the right instead of smack dab in the middle but because I shot so close, there isn’t much room to crop. But I’m ‘ok’ with that.

Can you see the reflections of light in her eyes? We can refer to those as “catch-lights” and they brighten up the image. Without them, her big, beautiful eyes wouldn’t glitter as much as they do here. A trick to better ensure that you get some of those nice catch-lights, is to have your subject look up slightly. Try it and make those eyes twinkle!
