I love these retro styled coke bottles. Naturally, I had to give it a retro look. I used one of Matt Kloskowski’s presets from his site Lightroom Killer Tips called Matt’s Surreal Edgy Effect. It doesn’t really work for human subjects, but looked really cool with these bottles. This photo is one of the few I took of inanimate subjects over the weekend. I really should get out of my comfort zone and shoot a greater variety of subjects. Perhaps some architecture for next time?

I must be on some sort of “centering” kick or something. My subject is yet again centered. However, I don’t mind it so much in this one since the lines of the cabinetry on either side of her form a bit of a frame and converge towards the center somewhat. What I don’t like is that the top of her head is cut off a bit. I guess it’s okay since I won’t be printing an enlargement of this one anytime soon.

After creating her cereal art, she had some “fun” cleaning the floors.

Lobster Claw

Lobster Claw

focal length: 32 mm
shutter speed: 1/125
aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 640
flash: none

I wish I had framed this slightly more to the right so that my main subject wouldn’t be in the centre of the image.  Because she is in the middle, her gaze and ours gets cut short as there is only half the image distance to travel from the centre to the right edge of the photo.  The dark shadows on the left part of the frame is a little more than I would like as well.  I could crop it so that it would line up with the rule of thirds a bit more but it doesn’t look like there is enough space on the top and bottom for me to crop and still maintain a 4×6 ratio.  BUT, look at that face!  This is one of those not-so-perfect shots, compositionally, yet perfect in my eyes as her mother.

Poor kid.  Still too young to enjoy lobster, so she had to settle for sucking on the claw.

Cereal Art

Cereal Art

focal length: 42 mm
shutter speed: 1/160
aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 320

I promised I would post some photos of the cereal art that Sophie created yesterday morning. I was just doing some dishes and noticed it got awfully quiet. That usually means she’s up to no good. And sure enough, she had dumped out a whole box of infant cereal on the floor. So, I decided to let her play with it before cleaning it up. I mean, why not right? Well, let’s just say I had to vacuum the entire house. I forgot to wash her feet right away. Anyhow, she finished off her playtime with this bit of “cereal art”. (I enhanced it because beige on beige doesn’t exactly stand out.) What do you see? I saw something right away… but perhaps you’ll see something different? I’ll post my answer in the comments after you do.

Sweet Morning

Sweet Morning

I seriously need to shoot in the bathroom more.  I just love the diffused glow coming in through the privacy window. It helps create some backlight on the subject giving her a little more separation from the background.  I did have to clone out a few distracting things.  Can you spot the differences?

Here’s the original:

Spot the Differences

It’s so cute that she wants to copy her daddy’s morning routine.  She must only use his washcloth and she just has to rub it all over her face and neck.  It’s seriously sweet.
