Looking Up

Looking Up

focal length: 24 mm
shutter speed: 1/250
aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 500
flash: none

A wide angle close up may not be flattering for most adults, but the effect can be quite endearing when shooting kids. I shot wide open at the widest setting on my lens and got in close. I was probably about a foot away from her face. Luckily she didn’t try to grab my camera!

I wish she was standing further away from the chair behind her so her hair wouldn’t blend in with the dark coloured wood. I’ll have to try this type of shot again under better circumstances.

Honestly, we need to get out more!

Little Fry

Little Fry

focal length: 50 mm
shutter speed: 1/250
aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 400
flash: none

I really enjoyed capturing those big, beautiful eyes. The catch lights in her eyes make her eyes sparkle and brilliant. Remember, to get those little lights spots in the eyes, have your subject look up slightly. I ran a little unsharp mask in Photoshop to sharpen up her eyes a bit. Why they call that filter an “unsharp” mask I may never understand! I like to keep my post processing minimal as I don’t really have the time to touch up each and every shot. Keeping it clean and natural looking is what I was going for here.

Chloe’s mom thinks her daughter’s eyes look bigger in my photos, but I swear they really are that big! Gorgeous!

Jellyfish

Jellyfish

focal length: 50 mm
shutter speed: 1/80
aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 1000
flash: none

I shot this in a pitch black room using the glow from the tank as my only light source. I used a high ISO and large aperture to try to get as much light in as possible. Even at this high ISO, this photo didn’t show much noise or grain. I was surprised actually! My older Nikon D50 would’ve had grain for sure. I guess my new camera is as good as they say? Can you guess which camera that is?

Moving sea life is almost as hard to capture as moving kids. Jellyfish weren’t as difficult since I couldn’t tell where it’s face was! hehe

Reflection

Reflection

focal length: 50 mm
shutter speed: 1/2500
aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 400
flash: none

Wow! The shutter speed is 1/2500s. Can you tell I’m shooting in Aperture Priority mode? I still don’t feel comfortable shooting in Manual as I’m still getting used to shutter speeds. And because I shoot all over the place and lighting changes constantly, I feel a little apprehensive to set the shutter speed each time. Still learning as always.

I know my subject is centered in this image but I didn’t want to crop out his reflection on the glass wall. Perhaps the reflection helps to balance the photo somewhat?

Elias was a bit shy getting his picture taken as he was very aware that I was there. I snapped this one quickly and stealthily before he noticed me there!

Mac Travels

I ordered a new computer last Sunday and I’ve been waiting patiently for it to arrive.  It is a custom order Mac Pro if you’re wondering.  The only thing “custom” about it is the wireless mouse upgrade, which apparently pushes the delivery date back by a few days.  I’ve been tracking the package and thought it was interesting how much it has traveled already.  It’s been to places I’ve never been to and probably will never get to go to!

Mac Travels

I would think the fastest way to get from California to BC would be North!  But that’s just me.

Hopefully my new computer hasn’t been man-handled too much.  hehehe
